THURGOOD MARSHALL COMMEMORATION
Parishes in the Diocese of Washington are encouraged to commemorate the life and work of Thurgood Marshall on May 17. Local commemorations are part of a church-wide effort to have Justice Marshall's name entered in the Episcopal Church's book of Lesser Feasts and Fasts. Suggested readings: Amos 5:10-15, 21-24; Psalm 34:15-22; I Corinthians 13:1-13; Matthew 23:1-11. LEGAL FAIR AT GOOD SHEPHERD, SILVER SPRING
Good Shepherd, Silver Spring will co-host a Legal Fair with the Maryland Immigrant Rights Coalition from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9. MIRC will have lawyers available for about 150 individual consultations, there will be ongoing short seminars in the sanctuary and local groups will host information tables. JOIN WIN AT THE D.C. CITY COUNCIL
The D.C. City Council will meet to consider and vote on the District's 2010 budget at 10 a.m. May 12. Several council members have earmarked Neighborhood Investment Fund monies for special projects in their wards. This earmarking violates the integrity of the fund, which was negotiated by Washington Interfaith Network members and others to support housing for homeless and low-income persons and other neighborhood services sought by residents.

RELEASE A BUTTERFLY ON MEMORIAL DAY
The Wendt Center invites individuals and families who have lost a loved one to release a monarch butterfly their name from 2 to 4 p.m. May 30 in Garfield Park, located at 3rd and G Streets, SE. The center, founded by the late Rev. Bill Wendt, former rector of St. Stephen and the Incarnation, is a D.C. nonprofit that helps families and especially children deal with loss, grief and trauma. To participate in the Memorial Day event, go to WendtCenter.org and click on "Let a Butterfly Soar." If you cannot attend, one of the center's staff or volunteer will release your butterfly.
SUMMER MUSIC CAMP
Redeemer, Bethesda will hold a Summer Music Camp from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 13-17. The camp, designed for ages 7-15 (campers must have completed first grade), will be staffed by three professional musical educators. Tuition for the week is $325; scholarships are available. Camp highlights include: utilization of portions of the Orff and Dalcroze methodologies; study of rhythm through motion; study of basic vocal production and solfege; introduction to reading musical notation; session on the relationship between math and music with NSO cellist Yvonne Caruthers; arts and crafts; organized outdoor recreation time, including a nature walk and a trip to the historic carousel at nearby Glen Echo Park. Lunch and a snack will be provided. Teacher/student ratio approximately 1 to 6. WALKING TOUR OF HISTORIC ST. MARY'S, FOGGY BOTTOM
Tour the site of the first Episcopal Church for African Americans in Washington, D.C., on land arranged for by President Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton. Architectural highlights of the current building, designed by James Renwick, include magnificent stained glass windows from Lorin de Chartres, France and the Tiffany Co. The tour, set for 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 30, will be led by historians Brad and Anna Louise Tatum with Richard English of Howard University and architect Marc Fetterman. FLANNERY O'CONNOR SEMINAR AT ST. PAUL'S, K STREET
John Foster, associate professor of English at Coker College, Hartsville, S.C., will facilitate two lectures and discussions on the themes of grace and redemption in the literature of the American writer, Flannery O'Connor at St. Paul's, K Street. The first lecture and discussion is set for 6:30 p.m. May 18, immediately following the evening Mass; the second is set for 4 p.m. May 19. INTERFAITH FILM DIALOGUE
Join members of the All Area Dulles Muslim Society and the Washington Hebrew Congregation to view a documentary produced for PBS, "Talking Through Walls; How the Struggle to Build a Mosque United a Community," followed by round table interfaith dialogue on the issues that the film raises: racism, freedom to worship and common misunderstandings about Islam. UMD CHRISTIAN STUDIES PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Episcopal Campus Ministry, University of Maryland: The Christian Studies Living-Learning Program at UMD is receiving applications for housing for the 2009-2010 academic year. Students from all majors (graduate and undergraduate) may apply. The program is housed in the Episcopal Student Center, administered by the UMD Episcopal/Anglican Campus Ministry. CHILD CARE WORKERS - ST. ANDREW'S, COLLEGE PARK
St. Andrew's, College Park is looking for child care workers for its Sunday morning nursery. Under the supervision of the Director of Christian Formation, the child care workers will provide care to infants and toddlers on Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Duties include opening and setting up the nursery, providing supervised care and/or play, serving parent-provided snacks, and cleaning up and closing the nursery at noon.
