Dear Youth Leaders and Christian Educators:
Below is an e-mail that was sent from the Rev. Karla Woggon, Moderator
of Diocesan Council, to clergy across the diocese about pictures drawn
by children and youthfor Diocesan Convention. I know that I sent this
out once before, but I hope that you will take another look at it and
consider this project as a way to enhance the voice of young people in
the Diocese of Washington.
Thank you for taking the time to look at it.
In Christ,
Paul

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I'm writing to you on behalf of the Diocesan Council to ask for your
help in bringing our new vision and mission to life. We are asking all
the children and youth of the diocese to draw pictures that represent
ways in which their church and their families are already living out the
vision and mission of the diocese. We believe that as the body of
Christ in the diocese of Washington we are in many diverse and universal
ways already living out our vision and mission and we are hoping that
the children and youth of the diocese will be able to help us visualize
those ways.
We plan to collect these pictures and display them during our diocesan
convention in January of 2007. To accomplish this we are asking you to
invite all the children in your Sunday school program on Sunday,
December 3 or 10, or some Sunday between now and December 18, to draw
pictures of what it looks like when live into our vision and mission
statement. We realize that some of the concepts are somewhat abstract
and hard for younger children to grasp. We have attempted to
concretize the concepts as much as possible. We also expect that
children and youth and adults will understand and interpret these
concepts in different ways on different levels. We are hoping and
trusting that God's Holy Spirit is working in all of us helping us to
see and understand what we might otherwise not able to see and
understand.
Please collect the drawings and send them to Gerry Perez and Atron Rowe
at Episcopal Church House, Mount St. Alban, Washington, DC 20016 by Dec.
18, 2006.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by phone
301-864-8880 or email kmwoggon at comcast.net.
In Christ's service,
The Rev. Karla Woggon
Moderator of Diocesan Council
P.S. Please allow the artist to interpret the vision and mission
statement in their own way. Do not feel constrained by the questions.
We have set no limits on the size of the drawings or the media used. Be
creative.
The Vision and Mission of the Diocese of Washington:
To help us visualize our vision and mission we are inviting the children
and youth of the Diocese of Washington to draw one or more of the
following pictures:
1. Draw a picture of the people of God living and acting as the body of
Christ in the world.
2. Draw a picture of what it looks like when churches work together.
3. Draw a picture of what it looks like when the church is sounding a
prophetic voice in the community, the nation, and the world. Or
Draw a picture of what it looks like when the church uses its voice to
help those who need help.
